概要 | Background:Patients are hospitalized in rehabilitation wards for recovery their health status. Many patients need supports by nurses before discharge because they have anxiety about their physical status; few studies have focused on discharge support provided by nurses.
Objectives:The purpose of this study was to investigate the present status of discharge support provided by nurses and its influential factors. Methods:A questionnaire survey was administered to 1,937 nurses who were working at rehabilitation wards in hospitals in Japan. The participants were asked about their experience as a nurse, environment factors (such as cooperation with departments of nutrition and rehabilitation), participation in discharge support seminar, etc. Furthermore, nurses were asked the present status of discharge support using a tool comprising 36 items. Each item is rated from 1 to 4, with a higher score indicating better discharge support. Data was analyzed using a stepwise multiple regression. Results:In total, 920 participants completed the questionnaire (47.4% response rate). Of these, 903 were valid for analysis. The mean experience (years) as a nurse was 15.7 (SD = 9.9) years and mean experience as a nurse in the rehabilitation ward was 5.2 (SD = 4.2) years. “Cooperating with in-hospital staff (such as social workers or physical therapists)” was the highest as present status of discharge support. The mean total score of discharge support status was 105.5 (SD = 17.3) (144 is the highest). The statistically significant influential factors were working experience in a cerebral vascular ward (β = .348, p = .019), cooperation with nutrition department (β = .417, p = .006), and experience as a nurse (β = .351, p = .019). Conclusion:Nurses carried out discharge support by cooperating with several kinds of professional staff. The results indicated that the factors influencing discharge support were experience in a cerebrovascular ward and experience as a nurse. |
